GRILL KEN SIM

Sean Orr’s commitments to hold Ken Sim and ABC accountable in opposition.

Sean Orr and COPE have a plan for how we can make Vancouver work for everyone instead of just the ultra-rich. But between election day and 2026, we’re going to face a lot of resistance under the ABC council, because Ken Sim only cares about his billionaire backers and super-rich pals.

Sean Orr and COPE can use this one seat to make a difference. Read his commitments below.

Vote Sean Orr on April 5

SEAN ORR WILL HOLD KEN SIM ACCOUNTABLE

Ken Sim gave $3.8 million in empty homes tax to rich developers.

Ken Sim has been marked absent from 222 votes at City Council in under two years.

He lied about the park board to get elected, and then tried to dissolve it without a democratic process, making it easier to sell off our parks to his rich friends.

He tried to suspend Vancouver’s independent integrity commissioner while under investigation himself.

He’s pursued policies that will make homelessness in Vancouver worse like pausing new supportive housing.

He’s raised taxes faster than Kennedy Stewart, while at the same time, cutting services like green bin pick-ups, the renters office, and planned upgrades to community centres.

Ken sim only cares about his rich friends. He promised us a better city, and all we got was Chip Wilson Day.

✓ Sean will block Ken Sim’s LNG lobby rollbacks. Ken Sim has already promised to bring the vote to restore polluting gas heating in new builds at the next opportunity. We need to elect Sean as part of a progressive opposition to make sure that he can’t find the votes to give a handout to big oil companies. Sean will expose the influence that Big Oil has on Ken Sim’s city hall.

✓ Sean will work with others to build a coalition that can reverse the ban on new supportive housing. ABC has fault lines which are clearer every day. On top of the ABC representatives he’s booted, there are more in his caucus who are not sure about his direction and shrinking popularity. Sean will work with other parties to open up those faults and reverse Sim’s cruel ban on badly needed supportive housing.

✓ Sean will work to bring back the Renters’ Office, but this time, with teeth. The renter’s office didn’t go far enough, but getting rid of it was a step backwards in a time where tenants are facing demovictions, rent hikes, and insecurity. And if Ken Sim blocks the return of the Renters’ Office, Sean Orr will make his office the renters’ office until we can Evict Ken Sim.

✓ Sean will always be a voice for what is needed, and call out Ken Sim and ABC for what they are doing to our city. Sean can move motions that will expose the ways that Ken Sim and ABC are misrepresenting their priorities, hiding their true intentions, and reveal the fault lines in ABC.

Sean will update people in Vancouver every week with what’s happening at City Hall. As a columnist, Sean has been exposing the powerful for decades. In office, Sean will share what he’s learning and seeing at City Hall with a weekly reportback that will agitate, educate, and inspire people in Vancouver to take action to resist Ken Sim’s disastrous leadership.

Sean will use his position to empower social movements to hold Ken Sim and ABC accountable, open up the doors of city hall to the people, and help to build a movement to make Ken Sim a one-term mayor. People in Vancouver are saying “enough is enough” to Ken Sim’s disastrous leadership. With someone like Sean on council, residents from neighbourhoods across Vancouver will again start to feel like their voice matters at City Hall.

Sean will make Ken Sim and ABC actually show up to work. Ken Sim has missed a record amount of votes to jet-set around the world to Bitcoin conferences and other absurd wastes of time. With tight votes, and a strong voice of reason on council with Sean, ABC councillors will actually have to show up to vote if they want a chance to pass their agenda.

Sean will fight for us and make Ken Sim and ABC’s last year in office as hard for them as possible, hold them accountable, expose their real intentions and agenda, and push them to rein in their billionaire-backed agenda. We know from history that whenever COPE is elected, other parties tend to find a conscience. Sean will push everyone to do what is right, and slow down Sim’s right-wing steamroll over our civic politics.

Sean will fight for integrity, fight for housing, and fight for Vancouver. It won’t be easy, but even when it’s hard, we need to fight for people. Sean will be unwavering and principled. He will ruffle feathers. He will put his neck out. He will hold Ken Sim and ABC accountable and fight for us.

Vancouver doesn’t have to be this way.

We can fight for housing. We can fight for the climate. We can fight for integrity. We can fight for public services. We can fight for justice.

Together we can build the city we need.

Together we can take democracy back from the billionaires.

Let’s start the process on April 5th.

Next year, we finish the job and Evict Ken Sim.
